Countable and Uncountable Nouns


Countable and Uncountable Nouns

1) Countable: are the nouns you can count and you can find them in singular and in plural:
             an apple, one apple, thirty apples ... 

Remeber !!!! The word "fruit" is uncountable but the word "vegetable" is countable

 - Singular: you can use the indefinite article (a/an) or a number (one); e.g. a chair, an apple, one chair....
 - Plural:  
     + some, many, a lot of, a few (for a small quantity)
       any
      ? any or some e.g. Do you have any oranges? Open question,I don't know the answer

                                           Would you like some grapes? Offer

                                           Could you bring me some eggs form the supermarket?Request/favour

 Remeber !!!! Si la negación o la pregunta la hacemos en singular, no usamos any, si noa/an.

     Quantity How many..?


  2) Uncountable: are the nouns that you can't count; e.g. sugar, water, milk, ...You can't use the verb in plural; e.g. "There is sugar in the cupboard" OK "There are sugar ..." X
   some, a lot of, a little (for a small quantity)
     any, much    e.g. "I don't have any sugar" or "I don't have much sugar"
     any or some  e.g. Do you have any sugarOpen question,I don't know the answer
